Headless Woman
the modern medical wonder
The first time that I saw this illusion was years back, at
some state or county fair (in Massachusetts I think), when I was just a
kid ... it was great, I paid my money and climbed the stairs to look into
a window cut into the side of a trailer, and there she was.. the headless
woman. the trailer was painted up to look like a tabloid, explaining the
facts of her beheading if I remember correctly.. I was just about positive that
she was a fake until she scratched her pudgy thigh... ( her fish net stockings
were looking a bit tattered...) I so remember the day !.. or am I
just remembering the pudgy thigh??
I was perplexed , pretty sure that she must have a
head... but where was it ?? It took me a few minutes, but eventually I
noticed an out of place shadow that tipped me off. I thought I was the
smartest kid at the fair !
Looking for a fun project to build this
season, i remembered the day of the pudgy thigh, and decided I would give this
old gag a try.. and I must say I'm pretty happy with the result!..

Here is the "almost done" Headless Woman illusion..
What you're seeing is an 95% complete set-up. It will
be finished with touch-up paint, some sort of "drape to cover the view
under the platform, and some sort of bandage used to bridge the gap between her neck and the
tubes. There will be some sort of "medical doo-dad" for the
blue tubes to attach to as well.. I
This entire illusion breaks down with "pin hinges" and packs flat
for easy transport lashed to the rood of my Saturn VUE.

a view both with and without the lovely "Leah, the
Headless Girl"
As you can see I'm no fine artist, but I get the job done !
there will be more pix posted shortly, so check back soon !
